I was amazed at the beautiful antique furniture in my room. The staff was very attentive, even coming around to see if I wanted to eat breakfast, lunch, or dinner. I didn't mind the "servant" assigned to me. He was helpful and made sure I had plenty of wood at night for the fireplace. He watched for me to see if I needed anything. I think they are sincere in making your stay a pleasant one. The general manager let me use her computer (in the office) when I couldn't get a connection on mine. The stay could not have been better, and it was my fifth trip to Chichi. When I go again, I will stay at the Mayan Inn.

The Mayan Inn was part of our tour package. Unfortunately I broke my ankle the first day in Guatemala making it difficult to get to my room. The room was spacious enough but was too cold for my comfort. Nearly every hour during the night I pressed the bell for them to relight the fireplace our only source of heat while there. As you can imagine it made it difficult to get a proper night's rest. The room was nicely appointed with older furniture and we were forewarned to dispose of toilet tissue only in the waste basket provided so pipes are not damaged as the place is quite old. The staff was very accommodating and helpful. Breakfast the next morning was delicious, especially the fruit platter and the homemade jam. The waiters were dressed in traditional native garb and gave breakfast a festive air. I appreciated the simple Christmas decorations adorning the doors to the rooms. We stayed in Room 5 with real drums for night stands and lamps that took up most of the surface space, yet adequate for charging cell phones. Lots of plugs for charging equipment was helpful. Our bed was both beautiful and comfortable and when we asked for more pillows they quickly accommodated us. Do not expect modern amenities, such as phone, or TV. While we didn't need those, others may want them. There is internet ....request the code when checking in. You will find plenty ambiance at the Inn and you will surely experience a more laid back experience of roosters crowing at 4am, birds chirping lovely sounds outside your window and cats familiar cries. Also they brought the colorful, talkative parrot over to our courtyard after breakfast and he made quite a delightful ruckus. Expect lots of hawkers, particularly children trying to peddle their wares. We ate dinner at the Los Coffrades Cafe Restaurant which was very good. We will likely not return to this Inn, but would certainly recommend it to friends who may be visiting the area.

My husband and ten-year old daughter loved our special evening in this beautiful hotel. We thought the food was delicious. In fact, we had our Thanksgiving Dinner in the hotel's dining room. It is a simple menu, yes, and the coffee is a bit weak, but the bread and meat and vegetables and sauces were fresh and prepared with care. The service was impeccable, attentive without demanding any attention from us. The "servant" is just a translation issue & was in my view charming. The hotel is so beautifully preserved; clearly the owners and employees love the hotel and take extraordinary care of it. The furnishings, for instance, are lovely antiques. It was sparkling clean too. Magical. This is not a resort hotel, but aside from a handful of hotels in Antigua, it is Guatemala's best. |
